About me

My name is Sloane Kady, and I'm a watercolor illustrator, pop-surrealist acrylic painter, an author of two novels and several short Horror stories. I'm also a producer, and I'm the creator of Blackweald Horror! Most importantly, I'm a mama (my favorite job), and a wife (my other favorite job). Otherwise, I'm an all-around wild woman who loves creating, family nights, and being in bed by ten.

I've been dabbling in art since childhood, but I became serious about my work in the early 2000s, when I was picked up by an art manager, and my then abstract paintings were featured in several gallery showings. I've since discovered myself, as both a woman and an artist. Where I used to create bland, timid pieces, I now create with unbridled joy and honesty.

Several years back, I completed my Expression series (an exploration into the mysticism of womanhood), which was picked up by a wholesale distributor. I recently finished my Mujeres Fuertes series—a playful yet deeply striking portrayal of femininity and strength in the face of pain, aging, and opposition. Now, my focus is on storybook illustrations with an edge.

In 2016, I participated for the very first time in Mab Grave's Drawlloween Club, a thirty-one day art challenge in which you create pieces based on a daily Halloween prompt. That first challenge breathed life into my love for illustrating. Since then, my skills have greatly developed, and my absolute passion for illustrating has grown exponentially.

As evidenced by my portfolio, I'm a sucker for anything spooky, and I'm a lover of unconventional characters with a penchant for mischief. As a lifelong lover of horror, it can't help but show up in all my work.
